The Ceremony
The ceremony is to be held at
The Woman's Club of Chevy Chase, Maryland
7931 Connecticut Avenue
Chevy Chase, MD 20815
Layout and overview of the ceremony
(i.e. all you've ever wanted to know about a Jewish wedding and
how it works)
beginning at 6:30 pm on Saturday, June 16, 2001
- The Havdalah
ceremony, the veiling
ceremony, and signing of the
ketubah happen
before the guests arrive, with only the wedding party and the
rabbi.
- The wedding
ceremony itself takes place under the huppah, a wedding
canopy. The huppah symbolizes a house in which the couple will
be living once they are married, and is held up by guests at
all four corners.
- At the end of the ceremony, the groom (or, in modern
weddings, sometimes both the bride and groom) gets to
break a glass.
- After leaving the huppah, the bride and groom will
traditionally spend 10-15 minutes in
yichud (seclusion).
