Peter Child, whose John Clare settings of a few years ago would be
a repertory item in a saner world than the one we have, has brought
off in "Tableaux II" (1992) something that seems equally fine - a suggestive-pictorial-dream piece that, by the
beautiful sound of it, struck this listener as very exactly imagined,
without a note too many or too few in its subtly eventful
course.
