SCA Resume for Justin du Coeur - ------------------------------ More or less in the order they occur to me -- Current Offices and Suchlike: - -- Deputy Seneschal / Borough Liaison. (This is mainly a formalization of the fact that I tend to hang out with the boroughs, and know the Seneschal well enough to keep her apprised of what's going on.) - -- Founder and head of the Low Company. (This is a sort of pseudo-guild for games and related subjects. It's less active than it once was, but flares up as I have the inclination. "Ace" was originally intended to be my title within the Low Company, but has wound up being more my personal nickname when in appropriate company.) - -- One of the people behind "questions@sca.org" (the semi-official question-answering group for the Society), pretty much for as long as the SCA's had an online presence. - -- Keeper of the Carolingian Homepage (the one at waks.org); the Period Games Homepage; lots of more minor pages. Previously: - -- Provost of Fenmere. (Two terms, freshman and junior years in '83 and '85.) - -- Founding Secretary of the Grand Council of the Society. (The Board of Directors braintrust responsible for arguing about Issues that concern the SCA. Tibor is currently the Chairman.) - -- Autocratted and/or kitchened five events, as I recall. (Kitchened a May Day, kitchened and assistant autocratted Happy Feet III, kitchened the second Arabic event, kitchened and autocratted Baronial 20th anniversary, autocratted the Winter's Revel at Lincoln's Inn.) - -- Founder of the Accademia della Danza. (The Baronial hardcore dance group.) - -- Founder of the Letter of Dance (the Society dance newsletter), and editor/publisher for the first several years. - -- Creator and keeper of the Rolls Ethereal (the online SCA directory) since '89. (I'm still doing that, but it doesn't take much ongoing effort since I automated it.) - -- Producer of The Knight of the Burning Pestle. (A play by two of Shakespeare's contemporaries, directed by Alessandro.) - -- Carolingian dancemaster for a couple of years. - -- Member, then Chair of the Carolingian Demo Committee, back when that still existed. (This was a body that ran for a few years, which spent a lot of time talking about *how* we should do demos. An interesting time, although I don't know if a huge amount was accomplished.) - -- Author, The Provost's Handbook; SCA Group Creation 101; probably some other tracts I'm forgetting about. Awards: Gingersnap, Kitchen Drudge, Terpsichore, Freedom of the Bridge, Moon, Daystar, Manche, Silver Crescent, and Laurel. Sometime holder of the Felding Favor. One of the few holders of an Award of Legs. Interests: - -- Pretty much everything. I'm sort of a professional dilettante, with a long-term goal of at least trying all of the arts that the SCA practices. I don't do many of them deeply, but I've been involved in most of Carolingia's guilds at one time or another. (Looking at the list in the Liber, I think there are three that I've never attended; I've been seriously active in about ten of them at one time or another.) - -- On the martial side, I've played with all of the martial arts except equestrian. I dabble with archery and thrown weapons now and then; I spent a couple of years doing fencing; and I spent about a year learning armored combat *way* back when. If I wind up as Baron, I'll get back into armor (if I can some help making a decent set) -- IMO, the Baron should be able to be with the troops on the field at Pennsic.
