Network Maps
Overall pictures
Larry Landweber does a really nice job of collecting global
connectivity info by country. He has
Color
and
Black and White
maps for a visual feel, and a
tabular
(i.e. text-only) version for specific details. You can see his
FTP directory
for some other, related, info.
There is also a map of
International E-mail accessibility from Olivier
M.J. Crepin-Leblond. This map is clickable to view specific areas in detail.
US overview
A good diagram of
Network
Service Provider Interconnections (in the US) is available, provided by
CERFnet.
Individual Networks
I collected this list long ago, most of these no longer work. I
haven't had time to investigate whether they've moved or are now
unavailable.
Other interesting network-related maps
A very interesting combination of
Cartography
and network mapping is a
map of Los Angeles and Orange County which provides referrals
to Internet Access Providers by location.
There are also a number of different places that have maps of the
undersea cables that carry telephone and network links:
non-map related resources
CKD has a site about
LOC records in the DNS.
Other lists of maps
Yahoo has a
page
of network topology info, which is where I found several of the
ones in my list. Martin Dodge has a collection of references on
The Geography of Cyberspace
which has a number of map links and a bunch of other, interesting,
stuff about the net.
